The difference between EDT and EDP comes down to concentration. Eau de Toilette contains 5-15% fragrance oil — it’s lighter, fresher, and typically lasts 3-4 hours. Eau de Parfum contains 15-20% oil, making it richer, more complex, and longer-wearing at 6-8 hours. The Dior Sauvage Eau de Toilette is a crowd-pleasing fresh spicy scent in EDT form; the Dior Sauvage Elixir takes the same DNA into EDP concentration with deeper, more intense notes that last well into the evening.
Concentration also affects price — EDP costs more because you’re getting more actual fragrance per bottle. But you use less EDP per application because the scent is stronger, so the cost-per-wear often works out similarly. If you’re new to fragrance, start with EDT to explore without the bigger investment, then upgrade to EDP once you’ve found your signature.
Every fragrance belongs to a family, and knowing yours narrows the field dramatically. Fresh scents (citrus, aquatic, green) are clean and energizing — the BLEU DE CHANEL Eau de Parfum sits here with its grapefruit and cedar opening. Warm scents (amber, vanilla, woody) are cozy and sensual — the Armani Stronger With You Intensely layers vanilla and cinnamon over a chestnut base. Floral scents sit in the middle, ranging from light and airy to rich and heady.
The Lancôme Idôle Eau de Parfum is a clean floral with rose and jasmine — a modern take on florals that doesn’t feel heavy or dated. For a casual, body-mist-style option, the Sol de Janeiro Cheirosa Perfume Mist Set layers tropical gourmand scents at a fraction of designer prices.
Pulse points — wrists, neck, behind the ears, inner elbows. Blood flows closer to the skin here, warming the fragrance and helping it project. Don’t rub your wrists together after applying; it crushes the top notes and changes the scent. For Men’s Fragrance options and more, browse our full collection.
Most fragrances stay good for 3-5 years if stored properly — away from direct sunlight, heat, and humidity. A bathroom vanity is actually the worst place for fragrance because temperature and humidity fluctuations break down the oils faster. Store bottles in a drawer or closet for maximum shelf life.
